College was definitely a whole new world compared to what Brayden had been used to. His teachers telling him stories and seeing a few campuses was nothing compared to actually being there. It was daunting yet exhilarating at the same time. Brayden did miss home though which was why he tried to drive back when he could. For the first month or so he had gone home basically every weekend. It was only a two hour drive and so it was totally worth it. Though now as the semesters drew on and his class load changed, it was a bit harder to do that. Brayden tried not to let himself get so caught up in just being involved academically. He tried to keep a balanced social calendar as well, which was surprisingly easy with the friends he had made in the past few months.

Brayden took out his phone and smiled, admiring his lock screen picture. It had been one that he and Milly had taken over Christmas break. They’d had an amazing time together and while it was hard being away from her, he made the best of the situation and tried to talk to her as much as was allowed by his other obligations. He felt bad sometimes because she called while he was out or doing homework and he wasn’t very active in the conversation. He sat in his dorm room on his laptop, browsing through Facebook as he normally did when he had some downtime. In the back of his mind of course, he wondered what Milly may have been up to.

Milly had never been the jealous type, nor the type to think the worst, despite the cards that life had dealt her. She knew she hit a rough patch earlier in the year, but luckily for her she had Brayden to see her through it. He was always so devoted, so sweet. Even from so many miles away he managed to make her feel special and like the only girl that mattered and that he wanted to be with. Of course, other girls tried to crush that mentality any chance they could - even her own friends. They 'worried' about what Brayden was doing on weekend and worried that Milly would be phased out for a slutty college girl, or that he would 'accidentally' drunkenly cheat on her.

Milly didn't need their speculation causing her more stress; she had plenty to worry about like getting into the same college as Brayden and trying to deal with her recurring nightmares about her father. She wanted things with Brayden to be good, she needed them to be… So, she tried to stay strong and level headed through all of the gossip. After all, why would he want to date a jealous girl with a boat load of problems? Milly was sure that her relationship depended on her being 'cool' and not bugging Brayden. All she wanted was to stay positive and be happy, and up until that day she would have done well at it.

That Monday afternoon Milly sat in class, also wondering what Brayden was up to. She knew his schedule and knew that he wasn't in class but she couldn't talk to him much at school or she would get in trouble. Milly struggled to focus as her phone vibrated in her bag on the ground. What the hell? she thought; who was bombarding her phone like that? She tried to ignore it but her curiousity got the best of her. Sneakily, she took her phone and placed it in her lap. Immeaditely, she wished she hadn't. it was an SOS group chat between her and the girls. Today's topic? Brayden's very questionable picture of FaceBook that he was just tagged in.

Her heart began to race as she shakily clicked out of the chat and into her FaceBook app. Sure enough, there was a whole new album Brayden was being featured in - some sort of fun party from the past weekend. As she swiped through most of the photos seemed innocent enough - just your typical college party. Nothing Earth shattering or shocking. But there was a particular blonde who managed to find her way into several of the photos of Brayden, and then eventually found her way into his lap.

In a panic, Milly exited the app and excused herself to the bathroom. She hurried to avoid letting anyone see her tears which were fast approaching. She made it through the bathroom doors but not into the safety of a stall before bursting into tears. Luckily, the bathroom was empty. She locked herself in a stall and took a seat then took out her phone. She opened a text to Brayden and stared for a minute. Milly wasn't the passive aggressive type normally but she couldn't help it as her finger tips clicked out a message: Looks like someone had a fun time at the party this past weekend. Sent.

As if to torture herself she went back into her app and began to look through the party pictures once more. This time she read the comments. The blondes name was Ashley Weston. Ugh, slut, Milly couldn't help but think to herself; that feeling only escalating when she say the comment she left on the photo of her and Brayden: So much fun! Bray Bae ;] <3. Who the hell did this chick think she was? Milly's blood was boiling and she fought back the urge to spitefully like the comment and the picture. She waited for Brayden to reply and her thoughts began to spiral. Was he dating this girl on the side and that was why he started splitting up the weekends? Did he even tell those girls he had a girlfriend?

Brayden’s day had been pretty busy so he hadn’t gotten a chance to text Milly this morning like he normally would. It had been a long time since Brayden felt about anyone the way that he felt about Milly. He loved her. He really loved her. He tried to make sure she knew that and that she never forgot, especially since they were so far away from each other. He always tried to video chat with her at least twice a week. They had movie or dinner dates via Skype when he wasn’t able to drive up to physically see her.

A few of his new friends and his roommate had dragged him out to a party the weekend before. He didn’t even want to go originally, but he had spent basically all of that afternoon working on his psychology paper which he had basically finished. All he had to do was add in the citations. Originally, the plan was only to go for an hour so that he could try and chat with Milly before she went to bed, but time seemed to slip away from him and by the time they’d left it was 2:30. He didn’t want to wake her so he waited until the next day to do it.

After class was dismissed, he headed to the student center to get himself some lunch. He decided on a slice of pizza, some bread sticks, and a soda. Brayden saw that his friend Ashley had tagged him in a photo and clicked on the link to the album. It was a fun night. He got a notification a few moments of a text message. He saw it was from Milly and smiled. That is…until he read it. He just looked at it for a second. This wasn’t like Milly. Brayden sighed and texted her back. ‘Hi and good morning to you too Milly. What is that supposed to mean?’ Brayden sent the message. He didn’t know where this was coming from, but he didn’t like the feeling that he was getting from that message.

Despite Brayden's valiant efforts at easing Milly's worries, she still had her doubts from time to time. Even though her rational mind was saying not to worry, her heart panicked and she didn't know how to control it. She cared so incredibly much about Brayden, loved him wholeheartedly, but would that be enough? Love wasn't always enough to keep a person loyal, and Milly knew that. Hopefully it would be enough for them though.

Most things had a logical and totally innocent explanation, just like what was depicted in those photographs. Weeks ago, she wouldn't pay them much mind. She would have been fine. At most, she would have made a playful comment about him already filling her place, but back then she knew better. But as the school year progressed, as they both became increasingly more busy with a variety of things, the more she worried a rift was forming between them that she couldn't patch. An imaginary rift that was only exacerbated by her friends.

When his text came in she fumbled to get it open, her hands shaking from nerves. Reading it made her blood boil. Really? How could he play stupid? The rational part of her brain scolded her, told her to stop behaving like a jealous child, but she silenced it quickly. Her anger was overpowering her reason. I didn't know you had a thing for blondes. Good thing I dyed my hair. God, Molly was never this bitchy. Who was she? Why couldn't she stop herself?

Brayden couldn’t even believe that they were even having this fight. Why was she making mountains out of molehills? Brayden would have liked to think that he had never given her a reason to doubt his affections for her. It put him back in mind of how his last two relationships had gone. Though each scenario was a little different, ultimately it came back to the same thing. With Josie, things had just become very controlling. She wasn’t happy unless things went her way and then with Emma, it was basically that Brayden was a sort of stand in. He did believe that she cared about him, but she would always love her best friend more.

That was part of the reason why Brayden had used the whole secret admirer ruse when he had first started to pursue Milly. He wanted to know that things would be different. That it wouldn’t just be that same situation over again and for the longest time, he felt that they weren’t going to be. Now however, he wasn’t 100% sure anymore. Brayden sighed when he heard his phone go off again and read the message.

He groaned, nearly slamming the phone down on the counter. He needed to let himself calm down before he answered her, otherwise he might have risked saying something that he wouldn’t be able to take back. He loved Milly he just hoped that she’d shake herself out of whatever was going on. He made his way back to the dorms and started on one of his assignments. He looked over at the picture that he had taken of her in one of the final few days before he left where they had spent the day at the beach. She looked so beautiful and then next to it their picture that they had taken at prom. He pulled out his phone, looking at his texts and then finally decided to bite the bullet and text her back. ‘Hi.’ He figured starting out simple might make it a little easier, plus hopefully by now she’d had time to calm down.

The way she was behaving was certainly out of character, but that didn't keep her from stopping. Statistics were against them though, at least that was what she was beginning to think. When a response never came she felt her mind begin to race and her stomach churn. Oh no… What had she done? Her heart raced, and in a panic she ran out of the bathroom and beelined for her dorm. When she got there, she texted her friend to grab her belongings from class and to cover for her, tell their teachers she didn't feel well. Milly couldn't handle being in class and she certainly didn't want to be around her girl friends either.

Milly struggled to fight the urge to send him a follow-up text. She wanted to give him a piece of her mind, tell him he was an ass for ignoring her and letting her mind wander to assume the worst. Was she spot on and he was just afraid to respond because he had been caught? Or maybe the blonde skank was around and he was preoccupied. Ugh, she hated herself for becoming the type of girl she always hated. She changed out of her school clothes and, ironically, into one of Brayden's long sleeve shirts and some sleep shorts. She might have been furious and scared, but she loved Brayden, and she missed him terribly.

She crawled into bed and kept her phone on her nightstand nearby. In an attempt to keep her mind off of what had happened, she watched Netflix, binging on some new episodes of Criminal Minds. Milly finally felt like she was able to clear her mind when her phone buzzed, causing her heart to race immediately. Shit… Milly read the text hesitantly and instantly frowned. What had she been expecting? She wasn't quite sure, but it was certainly more than what seemed to be a rather passive aggressive text.

Milly took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Brayden was not passive aggressive. She retyped her text a few times before finally sending: Hi… we should talk. It wasn't long, but it wasn't angry or bitchy. They did need to talk. Sooner rather than later. She needed answers and some peace of mind.

Brayden knew when he went away that things would probably be a bit more difficult for the two of them. He also had faith that their feelings for each other would greatly outweigh any difficulties the two of them may have come across. He hadn’t expected anything along the lines of what happened earlier though. Mainly because he had never seen Milly like that. She wasn’t that girl. Maybe today had just been a bad day for her. He couldn’t say for certain honestly, but he didn’t like it when they were at odds with each other. Brayden hadn’t expected her to text back as soon as she had, but he figured maybe it was better that she had. That way they could hopefully get to some sort of middle ground in all this.

He texted her back. [i]‘I agree. Do you want to do it via text? Or I could call you or Skype you?”[/b] Brayden knew normally he would have gone to her dorm but since there was about two hours distance between the two of them now it was a bit more of a time consuming process than it had been the previous times when they’d needed to have talks about things. He wasn’t sure what specifically she wanted to talk about. He figured the picture he had gotten tagged in was a part of the problem. Brayden tried to put himself in her shoes. How he might have felt if another guy had been him and Milly had been Ashley. He may have been a bit jealous himself, but it wasn’t that he wouldn’t have trusted Milly it was other people he didn’t trust.

Brayden continued to work on his assignment while waiting on her to respond back. It wasn’t long before he had actually finished it. He printed it out and stapled it, putting it in his folder for class. He made sure to e-mail a copy of it to himself in case for some reason he lost the folder or something else. He had already lost an assignment in the earlier part of last semester and ended up getting points off it because the professor deemed that it was late after class.
