“Definitely”, she said in agreement. She was glad there were laws that forbid working seven straight days without a break. She definitely wouldn’t have survived that. Evie looked out at the water as he mentioned to her that what she had said was a lot. Oh and did she know it. Part of her had been hesitant to say anything at all. She was going out of her mind though. She figured she may have felt better about things if she actually had someone to talk about it with. Only time would tell how true that was. “I know”, she said with a sigh. “I just don’t want to go through life constantly wondering about things though. I want to have some sense of peace about it…well ideally, but I guess if it’s not meant to happen, it’s not meant to happen.”

Evelyn smiled as he spoke. “You’re right and I’m glad that I can be there for her. I can’t say enough how wonderful she is.” She knew that he was right. There was no possibility that she would find her parents or even get the ideal scenario that she had spent years dreaming up. There were other good things in her life, things that she knew she should appreciate more than she honestly may have. “Would that really be such a bad thing of her being too much like you? I mean, I think you’re a pretty good person. I mean you’re one of the best dads I know. There are so many people, especially in our generation that would have been selfish and either given her up or have poorly taken care of her, but honestly I think you’ve done an amazing job.”

Katie was lucky to have him and if she was like him, Evie didn’t think it would be so bad. “I’m so sorry. I don’t mind though.” It was difficult to think that someone could just leave their child like that. She understood that sometimes circumstances just weren’t ideal, but there were so many ways to prevent it from happening. She didn’t know this woman and couldn’t really judge her. Maybe things had changed. Originally maybe she was excited and then maybe she had just gotten cold feet. “Sounds dangerous”, she said with a smirk. Evelyn could be overly cautious. Maybe it was just because she had been a bit sheltered growing up, but she was trying to break out of it now.

“Wow, that’s quite a story. Aside from the part of her leaving, sounds like an ideal story. Almost perfect even.” Evelyn had never really thought about what her life would be like once she became an adult. When she was younger, she used to wonder if she would get married or have kids of her own. Part of her wanted to, but she also never wanted them to feel that sense of insecurity about whether they belonged or not or who they really were which was why ideally she wanted to wait until she was in a financially secure place and with someone that she loved. She used to think about it with her ex, but those thoughts died the moment she found out that he had been cheating on her, even after she had forgiven him for it once. “I grew up in Canterbury. My dad taught economics at the University of Kent, though she traveled all over Southern England. It was beautiful. I miss it sometimes, but I don’t regret leaving. I just feel bad that I don’t get back as much as my parents want me to. I think originally that maybe it was because I was so consumed with my search that I couldn’t make myself leave.”

She made him nervous, more nervous than anything else. He sucked on his lower lip as he thought about it all. He nodded finally, “ Right, well I should be able to help you on your life’s mission then. When there are filming anything in this area, they usually have me cater in all their coffee and lunches. Give me your sister’s name and the next time I’m called upon then I can get you at least one step closer. ” He said and looked over at her and smiled, “ Can’t possibly stand by and not help anyway I possibly can.” He smiled over at the woman. “ I’m the gem. By a stroke of luck a director came into my café one day and used the Wifi and nearly drank me out of French roast. He said it was the best he’d had since coming to America. Well now when he is in town or anywhere near here he calls me up to make sure I can come bring stuff to the set.” He said with a small smile hoping he could help her out. He brought Katie every now and again. So it just made sense to help in anyway that he could. “ Maybe you’ll be able to find some answers. ” He said and nodded his head as he looked over at the woman as she spoke about his daughter. “ I’m happy that you can be there for her. She really like seeing you and talking to you. You just have a way with her like you actually like to listen to her. I mean I love to listen to her but I’m kind of biased. ” She said and looked over at the woman and then smiled brightly at her. “ Do you want a cup of coffee?” He asked her.He didn’t know what he was going to do he was sort of shocked that he’d asked her out to anything. He felt his hands shaking but he was going to hide that. He chuckled and shook his head. “ I’m sure it’s not a bad thing to be like me. I’m, my own worst enemy I always see bad things and never any of the good things. I just hope that I’m not horrible and mistake things.” he shrugged his shoulders a little bit. He chuckled and nodded, “ Sometimes it’s considered dangerous, other times its more considered dumb. But I suppose it’s a fine line between it all really.” he said with a small laugh. He chuckled and nodded his head listening to her. “ Well It’s not a story I like to share very often. Katie thinks her mother is a hero and I hope it always stays that way. But I also hope that she understands that her mother didn’t want to be a parent.” He said and looked over at the woman a moment. He let out a long sigh and then listened to her. “ Well that sounds like a good life.” He looked at her. “ Sometimes, you need to look at it differently, sometimes we have to look at it like we have journey’s in front of us that are bigger than us. ” He said and then smiled. “ Do you know…The Duke’s Fitzgerald of Whales? Like 47th in line for the crown and just the overall Duke’s?” he asked her just wondering if she knew who they were. Because he was going to have to tell her. He stood up and offered his hand down to her.He was going to pull her up with him and they were going to go away together. He just needed to get over everything and realize that even though he was very out of practice for this. He could ask someone out to coffee. He just needed to get a hold of his nerves. He bit his lower lip hoping that he didn’t look like a fool. “ So your father was a professor that’s impressive. Traveling sounds amazing.” He said and then looked over at the woman and hoped that this could at least be a friendship. He closed his eyes a moment and sighed. “ You know you can say no.”Vel&curren

She turned to him, with a look that could probably be described as shocked. She definitely hadn’t expected that. It wasn’t that she didn’t think he’d be helpful. It was just she was used to having so many dead ends, but maybe she just needed a second pair of eyes to see some fact or clue or tidbit of information that she may have overlooked thinking that it was nothing when it was actually something of importance. “That would be….just amazing Will, thank you. Her name is Cassia Holland.” She had done everything possible to get leads on her. She had even resulted to social media stalking, which didn’t help her much at all considering most of her stuff was private unless you were friends with her and Evie was always too chicken to hit the friend request button, worried about what type of scrutiny she may have faced from her. “Maybe, but even if I can’t I appreciate your efforts to help me.”

“I do actually like listening to her”, she said with a smile. “She’s just chuck full of interesting facts and stories. Talking to her is sometimes better than talking to most adults…if you can get them away from their cell phones or other electronics long enough to hold a conversation.” That was one thing that Evie didn’t like about technology. People seemed so dependent on it that they couldn’t have normal conversations with one another. She had once had the “pleasure” of having a couple in her section who literally spent most of the meal arguing with each other through text messaging. It was one of the stupidest things she had ever witnessed, but she didn’t say anything. She put on a smile and served them like she would any of her other patrons that came in.

“How about a tea instead of a coffee? I don’t want to be too wired that I can’t sleep later.” Normally it didn’t take much coffee to give Evelyn bursts of energy, which is why she normally got a small or a medium if she really felt like she needed some strong bouts of energy to get her through a shift. “I don’t think it’s just you. We’re all like that. Everyone else sees us as amazing and yet we see so many flaws.” Evie nodded her head. “I doubt there’s a horrible bone in your body.” Evie had only known him a few months, but she still felt like she knew enough about him to say that. “I’m sure when she gets older, she’ll eventually realize that, but it’s good that you allow her to make he own decisions about her instead of forcing an idea down her head. I’ve seen many people try and taint the image of a parent in the child’s head just because they don’t get along and I never felt like that was fair..”

Evie certainly wouldn’t have wanted to do that or want someone doing it to her. Evie smiled and nodded her head. “You know what? You’re absolutely right. I promise to try and remember to see it like that.” Thinking to herself for a moment, she shook her head. “Honestly, I suck at keeping up with monarchs or anything related to that. So no, I can’t say for sure that I have…why?” She took his hand and stood up, dusting the sand off the sides and back of her clothes. “Now why would I pass up the chance to get to hang out with you since it’s such a rarity anyway with our schedules being the way they had been.” Honestly, Evie was happy to spend more time with him. She thought he was cute anyway and she figured maybe getting to know him over coffee and tea would help her figure out if she was crushing on the idea of who she thought he was or who he in fact was. “Yes, he always loved teaching. He tried to get me into the whole economics things, but honestly it was like gibberish to me. I used to want to do something social work related, but now I’m not sure what I want to do.”

He looked over at her and then bit his lower lip. He closed his eyes as she said her sister’s name. He shook his head, “ Well that may a be a bit more difficult. Cassia Holland is very private but I’ve done work on her scene before. I Think it’s doable. So just remember, I can’t promise an instant happiness. But I can say that when I’m called upon I will call you and let you know.” He said and smiled over at the woman hoping that he could give her a little bit of hope. He looked over at her and smiled, “ I would be honored to help you in any way that I can. ” he said and then looked over at the woman as he nodded his head knowing that he was going to help her if he could. He looked over at some of the other runners. He smiled over at her and shook his head. “ She is undeniably smart. She is very clever almost to clever. I have to really think about it before I argue with her. ” He said and then smiled over at the woman. He looked over at her, he never really looked at his phone while he was having a conversation with others. He then looked over at the woman as she said that she wanted some tea instead of coffee. “ I suppose I could make you a mean tea. ’ he teased her a little bit.He chuckled and nodded his head, “ Oh Evelyn if you only knew me. You are a very wise woman. You make me out to be a saint I’m sure you are amazing and you make me out to be very good.” he looked over at the woman and then nodded his head. “ I feel that every person in this world has the right to make their own judgements. I never try to influence other’s on how they are supposed to feel about another human being. But sometimes it’s very hard to not want to hate that woman. However it’s not my place to say anything to my daughter about her mother. I just hope I can be enough for her in the older years.” he said and then closed his eyes a bit as he walked with her. He laughed a little bit when the woman said she was not up to date on the monarchs in the world. He chuckled a bit and nodded, part of him was grateful to have met one of the only people who wasn’t in touch with his life. He looked over at her as he helped her up to the standing position. He nodded and looked over at the woman. “ Well I suppose it’s time you’ve met the true neighbor. I am Caspian William Fitzgerald Duke of Whales. I am a monarch of sorts now that my father has formally stepped aside. ” He said honestly looking at her. He bowed lightly, in her direction letting her come to terms with that.[/b]” he then looked over at her and smiled. “ So at least now you are getting to know each other again.” He said and smiled. He chuckled and shook his head a little bit. “ Economics are quite dull. But the gibberish is a good thing to do I suppose. But Social work is interesting. As for not knowing what you would like to do when you grow up. The world is always open to you, you can make it what ever you like and all the adventures will take you somewhere.” He said as he offered his arm to escort her off the beach. He walked with her and cleared his throat, “ If you ever wanted to go back to United Kingdom for a visit you could always come with Katie and I. I’m sure that she would love and I mean absolutely love for you to join her on the long travels.” He said and then looked over at her hoping that his bombshell wouldn’t change how she looked at him. “Which shocked me. I mean, how private does a make-up artist really need to be? I guess it’s cause of the people who she works with and that makes her I guess a valuable middle person for someone wanting to get insight on some of the people I suppose.” She shrugged her shoulders, unsure of what other reasoning there could have been behind it. Evelyn smiled and looked over at him. “Trust me I gave up on instant happiness the same day I gave up on marrying Prince Charming”, she said with a laugh. “Seriously though, thank you.” Evelyn smiled listening to him talk about Katie. She was a clever girl. She was always telling Evie about how her father liked certain things or his favorite colors, foods, etc. Subtle hints that were becoming less and less subtle, but she figured for a kid as young as Katie, they couldn’t gauge how subtle they were being.

“I feel like that’s something every man ever has said about a woman in their life at some point”, she said teasingly. She could understand it though. “I feel like I do know you though, I mean unless you’ve got some like double life situation going on…then my perception of you might totally end up distorted.” Evie put a hand on his shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze. “No one could blame you for that. You loved this woman and she hurt you…badly I’d imagine. Trust me, I know all about hating someone because of how they hurt you.” Her ex boyfriend, Seneca, had been it for her. She was in love with him. He was the first person she had ever allowed herself to get intimate with and how did he repay her? By cheating on her and not once, but even a second time after she had forgiven him against her better judgment for it the first time.

“I’m sure you will be enough for her. The only thing that matters is that she’ll have someone in her life who loves her unconditionally. That’s all any child could ever want or at least I could assume that.” There was a bit of shock and confusion riddled over her face for a moment. She allowed her to process what he’d just told her. It made sense in a way. His mannerisms and such gave subtle hints to it, but she just attributed it to having parents who were strict on those sort of things. “So…do I have to curtsy now whenever I see you?” She was only half serious in her words. “That’s interesting though. So Katie is like…a duchess?” She was confused if it worked that way or not so she figured it was better to ask. “I get nervous when a guy asks me to go on a trip overseas with him and his daughter. Sounds serious”, she said with a smirk.
